StratiCELL recently completed the set-up of a brand-new skin microbiology laboratory, with all equipment and the necessary know-how for culture, amplification, detection and quantification of representative microbiological strains of the cutaneous microflora.
The laboratory and the dedicated microbiology team aim to combine bacteria, fungi or uncultured microbiota with human reconstituted 3D skin models.
Strains of interest include among others Staphylococcus epidermidis, aureus and hominis, Cutibacterium acnes, Corynebacterium spp., Malassezia spp., Lactobacillus plantarum and other probiotics.
Growth and viability can be tested over time by counting CFUs and qPCR, as well as the beneficial effect of pre- or probiotics as well as commensal bacteria on the skin epidermis (barrier efficiency, release of antimicrobial peptides, study of cell junctions, activation of the innate immune response, gene expression, etc.).
